News: Some owners of the just-released Wii U are reporting that their GamePads are freezing.

The Wii U just launched over the weekend, but like any brand new console, there appears to be some technical issues.

On IGN and Nintendo’s tech support forums, users are complaining that their GamePads are freezing and that it won’t respond until you turn off the controller and turn it back on. It’s being reported that the freezing will happen when doing things like playing videogames, using the internet browser, going through menus, and accessing Miiverse. So basically, it sounds like doing anything will make the controller freeze.

However, some affected users say that the TV remote functionality works fine and that there were no problems before downloading the console’s update.

Not only that, but a few users have reported that the console itself freezes as well, and that the only way to shut off it off is to unplug the cord from the power outlet since the power button doesn’t respond.

When contacting Nintendo for support, users said that they were told that they would have to either wait for a patch to be released or send in the GamePad for repairs, which would take one to two weeks.

This definitely sucks to hear, but it could be worse. At least you’re console isn’t bricked.
